Use these powerful permanent magnet alternators (PMA's) to make cheap electricity from Wind, Hydro, Steam and Bio-Diesel power systems.

Stop wasting up to 50% of your power energizing the coil of standard brush type alternators. Get a real PMA!

Permanent magnet alternators are by no means standard "Automotive" alternators containing brushes and electro-magnetic coils. A PMA does not waste power by having to continuously create an energy intensive magnetic field.

We sell only highly efficient - long lasting true permanent magnet alternators!

The SC120 makes 12 volts spinning by hand or 680 volts at 6000 RPM
(PFK cooling fan kit) - Please NOTE! This model has very fine wire and is easily burnt out when over heated. You must use a 10 amp fuse when doing test work with this model. Carefully evaluate and analyze heating problems before jumping to higher amperage fuses. Please note that cooling fans are also ineffective at speeds below 2500 RPM. DO NOT OVER LOAD THIS MODEL WITH HIGH AMPERAGE AT LOW SPEEDS!!!

SC series PMA's weigh 12 LBS. - Size 8" X 7" X 7"

WARNING!! Make sure you connect a PMA to the correct battery polarity. Positive PMA to positive battery terminal and negative PMA to negative battery terminal. IF you reverse the connections you will burn out your PMA as the power rushes past the blocking diodes and melts your coils!!!

If you plan to put your PMA in a salt water environment you
MUST coat all metal surfaces to prevent the disaster of corrosion!
Create a salt water and corrosion proof PMA with our Special Green Marine Varnish

Build a powerful battery charger for those cloudy or windless days using our powerful PMA's

Photo shows two of our PMA units that one of our customers powered with an 8 HP engine. After thousands of hours the PMA's are just NOW getting broke in and stating their 75 year projected life cycle since there are no brushes to wear out or worry about.

(Do not forget to order a cooling fan kit!)

Fan and pulley option -
Model #PFK Series - $39.00 ea. Choose from the 3 below.

#PFK Series - Pulley and large fan kit - Includes your option of :

#PFK60B - 60MM OD pulley for wide 1/2" belts -

#PFK80B - 80MM OD pulley for wide 1/2" belts -

A LARGE extra heavy duty cooling fan must be used for all engine, hydro and or belt driven systems. Wind turbines usually have enough air circulation not to require a fan BUT you must determine this fact by testing and observation. Specify your series #PFK cooling fan kit option at the time of your PMA order. Our PMA's are not fail safe!!! If you over load them they can burn out!!! You as the designer must watch carefully for signs of over heating. We will not warranty any fried PMA's!!!!!!

HEAT WARNINGS:
IF you are pulling over 500 Watts without a cooling fan your PMA it will over heat! Fan kits are very important to have on ALL high amp applications!!!!--- Keeping your PMA's cooled, fused and under reasonable loads is the operators full responsibility. Monitor your PMA for excessive heating in all experimental machinery! Maximum PMA's operating temperature is 350 F. for 100% duty cycle. No warrantees on ANY burned out PMA's! They are sold in good working condition and you have to keep them cool and never over loaded regarding amperage draw.

A PMA RUNNING SLOW WHILE DRAWING A FULL AMP LOAD IS A DEAD PMA!
Here is guide to help you choose the right PMA and keep it cool via the correct RPM V. AMPS coefficient
These figures must then be matched to the power curves. This total calculation must be done
correctly or you may find yourself burning up a few PMA's as part of your learning curve.
(Expensive lessons for the inexperienced!!!!!!!! All Sales Final.)

POWER DRAW CHART
0 to 300 Watts - Required RPM for proper cooling fan operation = 0 to 300 rpm +
300 to 800 Watts - Required RPM for proper cooling fan operation = 1400 rpm +
800 to 1500 Watts - Required RPM for proper cooling fan operation = 2500 rpm +
1500 to 2500 Watts - Required RPM for proper cooling fan operation = 3700 rpm +
2500 to 5000 Watts - Required RPM for proper cooling fan operation = 5500 rpm +
5000 to 7000 Watts - Required RPM for proper cooling fan operation = 8500 rpm +
7000 to 10,000 Watts - Required RPM for proper cooling fan operation = 11,000 rpm +
10,000 to 14,000 Watts - Required RPM for proper cooling fan operation = 18,000 rpm +
14,000 to 16,000 Watts - Required RPM for proper cooling fan operation = 25,000 rpm +

Following these figure are ONLY a guide and is not a guarantees cool operation since your amp load can still be to extreme. Don't pull more amperage then they can handle. If you burn one up you own it!!! No warranties on burned up PMA's!!! All Sales Final. If you are an amateur and do not understand electrical windings and how much heat they can take please don't buy one of our PMA's. If you are experienced watch for over heating and be careful.

Tech notes: Do not attempt to use a pulley smaller than 60MM" - The belt tension required to keep the belt from slipping on a smaller pulley will cause excessive pressure on the front bearing shorting its life.

5 to 8 HP engines are the most popular choice for people trying to achieve maximum results from their PMA's when utilizing internal combustion engines. A 5 to 6" engine pulley works good on 4 to 10 horse power engines and a 6 to 9" drive pulley has reportedly worked good for 10 and 18 horse power engines.

Torque Calculations:
We have no Torque figures since Torque is totally a function of LOAD. A PMA with no
load requires ZERO torque to turn at a ZERO load. You can't rate PMA's with simple torque
figures since "AMPS" or "LOAD" is up to every individual situation and individual people
have endless configuration ideas for their DRIVER and LOAD figures for whatever "Gizmo"
they are building. A young healthy human can generate about 300 Watts tops,, for a while.

These is all you really need to know is:
1 HP = 745 Watts / This is the conversion figure of electrical power to mechanical power and vis-versa.
From the HP and YOUR amp load figure you can calculate any required TORQUE figures for YOUR
specific driver and YOUR specific LOAD which WE do not know

NOTICE FOR ANY OF YOU A.E. NOVICES OUT THERE:

A battery is basically a BIG capacitor in electronic terms. Once your batteries
are fully charged you must THEN stop putting any additional power into it!

WIND TURBINE DESIGNERS HINT - When picking out a PMA the better
choice is the higher voltage model. You don't want to be under powered.
You MUST always exceed the batteries voltage to produce ANY net gain.

All of our PMA's produce unregulated D.C. voltage and may require a charge controller for smaller batteries banks or non-grid connected applications.

See Trace Engineering grid tie systems and more info on spinning your power meter backwards.

(PMA's have no over heat protection. Please use the appropriate fuses to protect your PMA coils)

TECH NOTES:

Taking apart a PMA the right way.

1. Remove the 4 housing bolts and pull the front housing off OVER the shaft. Never pull the rear housing off first!!!!
If it is jammed or rusted use some WD-40 on the shaft and alternately tap the mounting wings with a hammer while applying pressure to the shaft with your thumb so that the stator and it's delicate wiring harness is kept in place. NOTE: If the shaft is scored-up badly you may have to sand the shaft down to it's original 17mm size to get the front housing off.

2. Now grab the exposed rotor core shaft and pull it out WHILE holding down the stator ring with your index
finger and thumb. This will take LOTS of strength!!!!! If you fail to hold the stator in place the core and stator
will be extracted together and the wires will be torn off the stator and this is unrepairable! This is a tricky maneuver and usually takes some experience and lots of muscle!!!!!!!

3. Once the rotor core has been successfully extracted the rectifier connections are exposed and you may now unfasten the three wire nuts to safely remove the stator coil. (To reassemble simply reverse procedure)

Warranties will be void on any PMA that is opened by a customer.
Any PMA experimentation and examination is at your own risk.

WATER IN YOUR PMA

Our PMA's can get very hot so they need air ventilation holes.
Rain water and snow will not harm them.
Most people do not realize that rain water cannot conduct electricity!
Only water with minerals in it can conduct power like tap and ground water.
However PMA's can rust so please coat them with Varnish to insure a long life!

WARNING; High voltage PMA's and battery banks can cause lethal electric shock
BATTERY TALES:

Hints for people that are attempting to operate a household and are not on the grid:
Get a fork lift battery! Try calling places that sell used fork lifts. The 12 volt batteries that run fork lifts are the best! Many of these old batteries are discarded because they can no longer operate a fork lift for a full 8 hour work day but they still have enough operational life to run your household for many decades. Many can be bought at recycling prices and still have 100 times more amperage than a brand new bank of automotive type batteries that will only last for 2 or 3 years.

Lifespan of battery types while engaged in demanding alternative energy use:
Cheapest bargain store bought automotive battery - 6 to 8 months life before it goes to the junk heap.
Professional battery store bought T105 battery - 2 to 3 years life before it goes to the junk heap.
Professional battery store bought L-16 battery - 4 to 7 years life before it goes to the junk heap.
Industrial bought Fork Lift battery - The one I own is 31 years old now, I will let you all know when it finally dies.

Customer Comments: "My fork lift battery has been powering our home for 27 years now and still charging strong!
I feel sorry for the people using 105's or L-16's, that is a great way to go if your goal is to
create a mountain of useless lead within your life time or run out of power in the middle of dinner.
This is the best advice you are ever going to get and it is your funeral if you do not listen!
Our 12 volt /110 AC inverters can run for weeks at a time on our monster sized fork lift battery."

PLEASE NOTE: Our model numbers have nothing to do with voltages. For instance, our model #120 sereis can make 1,400 volts if you spin it at 18,000 RPM or it can make 12 volts if you spin it at 200 RPM. The '120' code is ONLY a stock number as are ALL the model numbers in ALL our PMA's. Our model numbers (#) are NOT voltage designations!
